Choosing the right kick plate
Kick plates are fitted to the lower face of a door to help protect the surface from shoes, trolleys, bags, cleaning equipment and everyday knocks. They are especially useful on entrance doors, corridor doors, commercial doors, fire doors, school doors, healthcare doors, office doors, hospitality doors and busy family homes.
Before ordering, check the door width, door height, kick plate height, material thickness, fixing method and finish. A kick plate is usually chosen slightly narrower than the door so it sits neatly within the door edges. If you are replacing an existing plate, check whether the new plate will cover old screw holes, scratches, marks or worn areas at the bottom of the door.
Kick plates are available in finishes such as stainless steel, satin stainless steel, polished brass, satin brass, chrome, aluminium, black and other decorative metal finishes. Stainless steel kick plates are popular for commercial interiors because they are clean, durable and easy to coordinate, while brass and bronze tone plates can suit period doors, hotels, restaurants and traditional entrance areas.
For a coordinated door protection setup, match kick plates with finger plates, door stops, door pull handles, flush door handles, keyhole covers and escutcheons, door hinges and door stops. Matching the finish across these items helps create a neat and professional door set.
For busy buildings, pair kick plates with commercial high load door hinges, exterior and fire door hinges, DDA compliant door handles, DIN locks, euro profile sash locks and euro cylinder locks. Choosing suitable hinges, locks, handles and door protection together can improve durability and keep high traffic doors looking better for longer.
