Old Fire Station - Carlisle
In 2012 Cumbria Fire & Rescue closed the Warwick St fire station, however in2013 plans were submitted to convert the building into a new arts centre. 2015 saw the work get underway for the redevelopment of the fire station, due to open in May 2015. In 2015 the Old Fire Station opened its doors to the public to provide a ground floor foyer with box office; cafe-bar, plus a main auditorium for live music, comedy, theatre and exhibitions accommodating around 250 seated or 350 standing.
Job Description - New Arts Centre - Following a meeting with the architect it was decided to go for an sss finish for the conversion of the former fire station. This was a lovely job to be involved with to see this building transformed. We had some issues to overcome in relation to the sound from the theatre in to the café area and the upstairs offices. This was overcome using the Norseal range of drop down seals and perimeter seals. The range of handles used was from Zoo and was the zpz030 return to door with all relavant pull handles etc again meeting current DDA regs. The closers again were from boss being the ts5.225 which is adjustable power with backcheck and delayed action built in. Sadly since the floods this building was gutted on the ground floor and is currently been rebuilt using all the same items from the ground floor.
