Is it possible to get a latch handle with a long backplate?
I am interested in the polished chrome; is this a lacquered finish and how does it stand up to daily wear and tear?

Yes the polished Chrome finished is lacquered, so as long as it is cleaned and treated correctly it should last a long time.
