These Solid Ebony Door Knobs have a classic Edwardian bun design, superbly crafted in genuine solid ebony, a wood that has long been regarded as one of the finest most decorative hardwoods. Ebony wood can be polished to a superb lustrous finish and is excellent for achieving fine detail when turned. The rose fittings are available in aged brass or polished nickel finishes making them ideal for period or contemporary interior design.
As ebony is such a dense wood, it lends itself to good turning. The difference between these ebony knobs, and an ebonised equivalent is chalk and cheese. The solid ebony product is far superior, but costs only a fraction more. Regarding sustainability, the ebony genus Diospyros spp is not a blanket protected species by CITES, although it is generally considered vulnerable to over-exploitation. For this reason it is guaranteed that these ebony knobs are made in small batches in a legal, ethical and sustainable way. The knobs are made from timber that has been verified by Royal Botanical Kew Gardens as sustainable.
